On Friday, June 7, in the concert hall of the Museum of Sound, members of the creative association VALab Vladlena Gromova and Artyom Paramonov, with the participation of Alexander Zhuravlev, Ph.D., employee of the neurogenetics laboratory of the Institute of Physiology named after I.P. Pavlova RAS, will talk about the work on the FABRIC OF LIFE project.
The Tissue of Life is an artistic and scientific research project aimed at studying the coincidences between the genes of a person and a model object of Drosophila genetics. The project participants will try to determine at what length of the fragment the homology is specific, i.e. to identify the most stable unit of the genome (the number of nucleotide pairs), which, despite all the mutations and rearrangements, remained relatively stable. Thus, it will be possible to detect the “atom of evolution” and establish at what nucleotide composition of fragments the homology is maximal.
The artists will present the results of the study in a macroscale, literally "linking" two genomes on a punched card knitting machine. By zooming in on evolutionary connections, they make them tangible, tactile, and replicable.
The project participants will talk about the hypotheses underlying the research methods and the process of working on the installation.
Joint program of the project of the Techno-Art Center and the Institute of Physiology. I.P. Pavlova RAS, entitled "New Anthropology", is supported by a grant from the President of the Russian Federation for the development of civil society provided by the Presidential Grants Foundation.
